This beautiful cake or chop plate from Zaalberg is very RARE in size and blue glazed edge . I believe the matte blue speckled glaze was introduced during Art Deco period, but the imprinted mark implies that it was most likely produced between 1950-1970, although I’m not familiar engough with Zaalberg marks to confirm. The plate measures 11-3/8″ and is completely finished in Zaalberg’s blue speckled glaze. The edge and bottom are also covered in same glaze which is unusual. Generally, Zaalberg’s similiar stoneware plate edges are finished with darker glaze. The plate is made of beige stoneware vs. brown stoneware.
