The active ingredient that attracts cats is meta-tabilacetone (3-5%). Constituents vary according to the source. Catnip is a bushy perennial plant no more than 1 meter high, with square stems and soft oval serrated leaves. The whole plant has a strong aromatic scent, which is attractive to cats. Common Uses: Catnip essential oil is commonly used to help treat chills, coldness in joints, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, colic, flatulence, dyspepsia, insomnia, nervous tension and stress related conditions.
